Biggest Fashion Houses signature styles! Part 2 of 2.

In this part we'll be reviewing the most highlightable traits of the second half of the appointed fashion houses!

Givenchy

In many pieces, the French chic style is fairly obvious, thay being said oftentimes they carry Italian inspiration.

Founder: Hubert de Givenchy (passed in 2018)

CEO: Renaud de Lesquen (since 2020)

The House of Givenchy often brings our focus to the shoulders, weather they're covered in an originally shaped material or exposed. The use of solid colors is also frequant, along with feather-inspired looks much adopted on the catwalks.

Casual chic, aristocratic elegance and femininity all combined as a whole: it's Givenchy.

Gucci

Founder: Guccio Gucci (passed in 1953)

CEO: Marco Bizzarri (since 2015)

Gucci manages to find the middle point between youthful pretty and adult sexy. Being elegant and joyfully energetic in syncrony is another carachteristic trait of the firm.

Catwalks feature expressive colors, Italian style detailing (much detailing!), a rich amount of floral patterns, and sometimes impressive decorative headwear for the models. Gucci can be gothic but full of life, vibrant, at the same time.

Hermès

Founder: Thierry Hermès (passed in 1878)

CEO: Axel Dumas (since 2013)

Two words: chic and clean. On the runway, Hermès is portrayed as minimal, simple, but intricate and sophisticated. The use of leather is recurrent, especially that in black and amber/fire orange.

Furthermore, the classic 1920s inspiration is noticeable, especially in the dresses, although this isn't always applicable.

Lastly, in many shows, exhibits looks inspired by British fashion pre and post war, while in many other shows displays French-inspired looks.

H&M

Founder: Erling Persson (passed in 2020)

CEO: Helena Helmersson (since 2020)

Although H&M may not seem to be quite as luxurious as the previous fashion houses, rest assured that this pressumption is wrong. This particular brand has partnered with an uncountable amount of high profile designers to create showstopping pieces and exhibitions, and is slowly taking over the fashion retail world. Let's bear in mind that H&M's 2019 total profit was approximately 1.8 billion USD (to compare, Hermès brought in around 6.88 billion and Bottega Veneta made 1.167 billion that same year).

H&M fashion is always super à la mode, classy but oftentimes also casual. From frocks and gowns to denim shorts and simple tees, the company has an inmesurable range of diverse habiliments.

When it comes to runways, H&M present frilly dresses, summer apparel, as well as fall, winter & spring-wear, etc. Not just that, but also office-suitable gear, soirée garments, red carpet costues... there is no start or finish to whar H&M has to offer.

Isabel Marant

Founder: Isabel Marant

CEO: Sophie Duruflé (I couldn't find when she was appointed CEO anywhere! If anyone knows tell me please!)

Jane McFarland said in The Designer's Report:

"Today it’s an instantly recognisable aesthetic: the leggy silhouette, via skinny, high-waist trousers or a mid-thigh ruffled mini skirt, a ruffled bohemian blouse, the rock ’n’ roll heeled ankle boot. The over-all vibe is effortless, androgynous and imbued with just the right amount of femininity – anything overtly sexy is always tempered with comfort." (article linked down below!)

Jacquemus

Founder: Simon Porte Jacquemus

CEO: Simon Porte Jacquemus (since founded, 2009)

"The brand brings a modern feeling to traditional French style as simple designs merged with experimental shapes and exaggerated proportions form the label’s defined signature. Outstanding, unique, confident– some of the characteristics that embody a woman whom the Jacquemus apparel is designed for." Quote from Italist (full article linked below!).

Jacquemus catwalks, aside from being set in some of the most fascinatingly magnificent places, are very peaceful and dreamy. The minimal designs with strong or calming colors, which are often unmixed, portray a powerful and unreachable, yet sweet and classy model.

Louis Vuitton

Founder: Louis Vuitton (passed in 1892)

CEO: Bernard Arnault (since 1989)

This brand can be best recognized by the knee-high boots, oversized items with sharp edges, these (edges & hems) often accentuated with folds or different colors and the use of leather for verious pieces.

In addition, Louis Vuitton frequently offers a diversity in colors that are very contrary, but always seem to collide beautifully, and sometimes even divided with the use of an accessory such as a belt.

Finally, another secret to spotting out a Louis Vuitton garment lies in the embroidery and the patterns. Many times the traditional Spanish inspiration is noticeable, such as the classic 'torero' style jacket. Some pieces have very challenging patterns alive with all kinds of colors. Futurism is also present, but not as constantly as the previous points.

Valentino

Founder: Valentino (full name - Valentino Clemente Ludovico Garavani)

CEO: Jacopo Venturino (since 2020)

As said by Sofia Elena in SL Mag (linked down below), Valentino is thoroughly elegant, never pretentious, flattering, never excessive, luxurious, never exagerated.

Some of the House's signature styles are the harmonious silhouettes, the perfect lines, the pure color hues, the versatile prints and the high-end fabric blends that make each Valentino creation a wearable piece of art.

On the runway, the use of clean shapes and folds, rich colors, innovative curves and designs highlight Valentino's trademark style, as well as the dramatic and outspoken, but discreet-looking models.

Versace

Founder: Gianni Versace (assassinated in 1997)

CEO: Jonathan Akeroyd (since 2016)

Fasion United said this about Gianni Versace's fashion empire: "colorful, sexy and luxurious. His designs mixed baaroque prints, animal skin motifs, bondage style leather, slits and, especially, ultra-tight fits" (read full article!).

Another good review of the brand is from Gevril Group: "The aesthetics of Versace’s prêt-à-porter brand is the evolution of modern and modern chic, designed for men and women who use their looks to turn heads and express power. Versace haute couture embodies sensual elegance, but uses strong lines and colors to contrast hard and soft in a way that makes classic glamor evolve into a new modern and relevant look. The Versace brand is emblematic of an intense and elegant style." (read full article!)
